The Herreshoff America is an 18foot catboat whose lineage runs straight back to a 1904 Nathanael Herreshoff hull form, reworked by his grandson Halsey Herreshoff in the early 1970s for molded fiberglass construction anchor. What emerged was a beamy, shallowdraft daysailer and weekender built in the 1970s by Nowak & Williams of Bristol, Rhode Island, with more than a hundred vessels ultimately produced from the same molds through the 1970s and into the 1980s anchor. The design proved so adaptable that the tooling later yielded the Eagle sloop, the catketch Herreshoff Scout, and a string of motor launches, before the molds themselves passed to Squadron Yachts and then Nauset Marine.
